March TSC 2003 Update

The TSC is on track to raise the $4 million needed for the Community Foundation Technology Initiative according to Tom Peters of the Marin Community Foundation. Here are some key benchmarks to bring you up-to-date on this important issue:

  • Proposal were sent to the 50 largest community foundations in December, 2002, asking eachto consider a contribution to the Funding Syndicate.
  • The proposal was reviewed and discussed at the Meeting of the Larger Community Foundations and at the FAOG Conference in January.
  • Commitments to the Funding Syndicate have already passed the $2 million mark. As of March 15, 25 community foundations have stepped forward to become part of the Funding Syndicate, including: Baton Rouge, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, Denver, Foundation for the Carolinas, Fremont Area Community Foundation, Central Indiana, Kalamazoo, Kansas City, Louisville, Marin, Southeastern Michigan, Minneapolis, New Hampshire, New Haven, Oklahoma, Peninsula, Philadelphia, Rhode Island, Richmond, Rochester Area, Saint Paul, Seattle and Winston-Salem.
  • Additional decisions are being made at board meetings by mid-April so the April update will provide an even more substantial total soon.

In the meantime, efforts to advance the work of the Technology Initiative have also kept pace. An Operations & Procedures memorandum has been written and is in the final stages of approval. Chairpersons are organizing their subcommittees, getting briefed on prior work done in their area of focus and gearing up to begin their work.
